Janet Tzupa
Janet is a Social Work student who is an active community volunteer with the Regina Women’s Centre’s Sexual Assault Line as well as other organizations. Janet is employed by the City of Regina as a lifeguard and swimming instructor. In the future, her plans include creating better access to services and assistance for all people in need.
"When I first saw the Intercultural Leadership Course, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I thought it would be a valuable resource to use in my future. After taking the first class, I am more excited about the program, not only, for what I will learn about others, but what I will learn about myself."

Jessica Hanna
Jessica is a Human Justice student in the Faculty of Arts. Jessica did her first practicum at Regina Alternative Measure Program. Jessica is a member of Canadian Youth for Choice under the Canadian Federation of Sexual Health. She is a board member of Briarpatch magazine. Jessica has been and continues to be involved in the labour movement and is interested in human rights, the criminal justice system and sexual health rights. Jessica wishes to understand differing cultural perspectives in order to be an effective decision maker and policy maker.

 

Cassandra Opikokew 
Cassandra Opikokew is a Cree student from the Canoe Lake First Nation who grew up in Meadow Lake. She is the first ever Aboriginal Students’ Director for the University of Regina Students’ Union representing U of R Aboriginal students and she recently started her second term. She also volunteers at the University of Regina Aboriginal Student’s Centre and is a mentor for the Aboriginal Students Mentorship Program. She is also in the process of creating the first ever Indigenous Students’ Association at the U of R with a group of other Indigenous students. Cassandra is currently a student in the School of Journalism and is pursuing a career in television broadcasting. She has also completed her certificate in Indian Communication Arts from the First Nations University of Canada. As a future leader, she hopes to give back to her First Nations community by continuing to be involved in First Nations initiatives and by striving to constantly improve her leadership abilities with a respect for traditional First Nations leadership values.

 

 
Katryna Smith
Katryna is a First Nations student originally working on her Journalism degree and has finished her Indian Communication Arts Certificate and recently her Indigenous Studies degree. She plans on entering the School of Journalism in September 2008. Katryna would like to write and produce documentaries as part of her future goals. Katryna has a strong interest in human rights and has worked to organize a Rights and Democracy conference in the past year. Recently, FNUniv had student elections and now she sits on the Student Association as the INCA Representative. Various projects include working on a online magazine for the Rights and Democracy Network. Katryna hopes  to be a leader as a professional journalist and Professor of Journalism at FNUniv and wishes to serve as a leader for her family, reserve, and nation.
 

 

 
Ashley Tysdal
Ashley is working on her Social Work degree and has already completed a Certificate in Rehabilitative Work. Ashley is concerned with issues of racism and stereotypes which create division both socially and economically for First Nations people in Saskatchewan. While working as a Rehabilitation Worker, Ashley realized that there are no programs or services specifically aimed at helping First Nations people with disabilities. She hopes that her Social Work degree combined with the Intercultural Leadership Program will give her the skills needed to develop culturally sensitive programs, including residential and vocational programs as part of her future career.

 

 
Conrad Bird
Conrad is a devoted father who has nearly completed his Administration degree. Conrad values leadership at all levels of society: community, politics and family and recognizes them all as being influential and important. Conrad is a member of Montreal Lake First Nation and lives in Prince Albert Saskatchewan. Conrad hopes to use his leadership skills in his future career upon graduation.
