Our Collection

The Saskatoon Campus Library maintains a collection of approximately 15,000 items, including books, periodicals, newspapers, microform, videos, vertical files, government publications, archival materials and CD-ROMs.

Our collection focuses on the Indigenous Peoples of the North, South and Central America and supports the academic courses offered by the First Nations University of Canada including Indian Studies, Masters and Bachelor of Indian Social Work and Indian Business Administration. It contains materials for Arts and Science. It is the home of the old Office of the Treaty Commissioner Collection.

Reference Materials

The Saskatoon Campus reference collection includes encyclopaedias, dictionaries, handbooks, bibliographies, biographies and atlases. The items in the reference collection must be used in the library. The CD-ROMs contain indexes for searching for periodicals and archival materials. CD-ROMs must be signed out at the front desk.

Reserve Readings

Items put on reserve by the instructor must remain in the library. The reserve shelf generally includes text books and recommended readings for specific classes. Students must inquire at the front desk for reserve readings.

Periodicals, Journals & Newspapers

The Saskatoon Campus Library subscribes to approximately 85 different periodicals, journals and newspapers in the areas of Indian Studies, Social Work and Business Administration. These items must all remain in the library. Examples of periodicals are Native Studies Review, The Canadian Journal of Native Studies and The Journal of Multicultural Social Work. We also carry the Globe and Mail and The Star Phoenix as well indigenous newspapers such as Windspeaker and The First Perspective.

Audio-Visual Materials

There are a variety of audio-visual formats available in the library including VHS, DVD, audio cassette, etc. The library has a viewing area for your convenience.

Government Publications

Government publications are documents that have been produced by various government bodies. For example, many of the items published by Indian and Northern Affairs can be found in government publications. Government publications may be borrowed from the library.

Archival & Microform Materials

Archival materials and microform items must remain in the library. The library has a microform reader that can make photocopies of materials for $0.25/copy. The reader is difficult to operate, so please ask for assistance.
